Since I was young, I have been a voracious reader, flipping through pages from morning till evening. I used to read only fiction as each book I read would transport me to another world whether it be Middle Earth, Hogwarts or a modern world where Greek gods exist. Soon I progressed to reading non-fiction along with fiction and was taken to different times ranging from 1920s Atlantic City through Boardwalk Empire to travelling with a young Obama from Honolulu to Harvard through Dreams from my Father.
Through this biopic, Trevor Noah perfectly balances comedy and seriousness to tell his life story. I like how he uses his unique comedic touch to take us through his life from his tough upbringing in Apartheid-era Soweto in South Africa to becoming one of the world’s best comedians, known around the world.
J.G.Ballard’s 1961 novel takes one through the experiences of Jim, a British boy who had the misfortune to be living in Shanghai when World War II began and the Japanese invaded. What stands out about this story when compared to others is how the story is told through the eyes of a child and which results in a story which is not so black and white with it’s villains and heroes. The war and the PoW experience seen through the prism of a child’s innocence, is what made this novel stand out for me.
The Meadow tells the true story of the brutal kidnappings which took place in Kashmir in 1995. Brilliantly researched and written by Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott-Clark, the book, although disturbing at times, opened my eyes to an important part of India’s history that I did not know about. This book also inspired me to get more into non-fiction books.
On the surface, Dune might simply look like just another sci-fi novel but Dune is much more. Through its simple storyline, Dune explores many complex themes including religion, politics, ecology, technology and much more as the different groups in the story fight for the control of the planet Arrakis and its valuable resource- the spice melange. A lover of sci-fi from a young age, for me Dune stood out from all the other books by not using the same tropes which are common in the genre but instead being completely different and unique.
In my opinion, Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett are probably the two funniest and zanniest authors of all time and so when both of them collaborated to write a novel, I knew it would be a great book. That novel is Good Omens,a comedy which tells the story of the birth of Satan in the modern world and the coming of the ‘End Times’, which is trying to be sabotaged by the angel Azriphale and the demon Crowley. A laugh a minute from start to finish, the book is one which I reread multiple times because of how interesting and funny it is.
Wrote 17 articles over the course of two years for Onmanorama, working as a campus reporter on topics ranging from entertainment to sports to lifestyle. This gave me an opportunity to hone my writing skills.
Read all ArticlesMy endeavour to learn karate has taken me through an entire gamut of martial arts and I am now in the process of building a website dedicated to kalaripayattu, the traditional martial art of Kerala. Kalaripayattu demands extreme mental and physical attention to attain perfection of action. It is a holistic process of learning and building a unified mody-mind continuum.

I am a firm believer that you should always look to take up causes which would help benefit the society.
Despite my performances all being in the classical department, my favourite genres are actually hip-hop and R&B. From the genre bending stylings of Kanye West to the lyrical flows of Freddie Gibbs to the psychedelic rock and roll of Tame Impala, these albums are my comfort music at all times.
From comedies to dramas, movies have always been influential in my life. Whether it’s a galaxy far far away or the Dark Ages, movies always help me to take a break from real life to escape to another time and place.
For many years, I thought anime was weird and something which was for kids only. It wasn’t until I gave it a try, that I realised how wrong I was. From the intricately crafted storylines to beautiful world building to complex character growth, anime and manga was a new realm which I was lucky to be introduced to.

I was born and raised in Kottayam, the 'land of letters, latex and lakes,' known for its tranquil backwaters, paddy fields and natural rubber plantations. Kottayam is the publishing capital of Kerala state. The first printing press was established here in 1821 and the town was the first to achieve 100% literacy in India.
Pallikoodam, my school is in Kottayam. This unique school was founded by Mary Roy, educationist and advocate for women’s rights. Being taught in our mother tongue for the first 3 years, the school believes in preserving one’s mother tongue, the culture of Kerala as well as participating in local community issues as well as national.
